Is It That Time… Again?
So it has been more than a few months since I have written. There has been plenty of time to ponder the happenings of my first tip to Moscow. Although I had difficulties, mostly involving language, feelings of inadequacy and unforeseen, often harsh disappointments, these past months have given me time to really forgive myself for the mistakes I made and take at least a reasonable amount of pride in my accomplishments.
I believe now I have come to a place where I can go again. This time I know what to expect on the metro, in the city, the people without feeling entirely vulnerable.
I never posted about my last day. It was most certainly my best! I woke up in the morning and got on the metro after sending some last minute post cards! I then went to the Arbat and ventured to Gogol’s house museum. I hadn’t been before and it was fantastic! On the bottom floor is the museum, with several rooms where Gogol wrote, spent his last days before his death, his death bed and the fire place where he tried to destroy dead souls. Really cool stuff. Then upstairs, fancy this, an actual library! Our university doesn’t have one, so I was stuck studying in the barren dorms or eventually my room at my apartment. So this was a great library and I read, relaxed, prepared to leave.
I then walked everywhere I had been in the beginning. Red square, Kremlin, and a few other places. I walked for hours until after dark. I then went to my favorite coffee place, the “Coffee Bean” as it is called. It is a cute “American” style coffee place that I am photographed in, in the previous post.
I hope to keep updating as I plan my next trip. Hopefully it will be in December, after I graduate. More info to come. I may even add a little stop in Germany/ somewhere new or special as my funds permit! We will see…
